FAQs: Dermal Fillers at Gallery of Aesthetics in South Jordan, UT

We proudly offer a comprehensive selection of fillers by the leading manufacturers Allergan, Merz and Galderma.

  • Allergan fillers include the Juvéderm® family of fillers (Juvéderm® Ultra XC, Voluma®, Volbella®).
  • Merz fillers include Radiesse® and Belotero Balance®
  • Galderma injectables include Restylane®, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Kysse, Restylane Refyne, Restylane Defyne and Sculptra®

Most dermal fillers are made of a smooth gel that is packed with a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA). This smooth gel is injected into strategic areas of the face or hands to provide an immediate plumping effect that smooths skin and restores a younger-looking appearance.

Yes! Some fillers are not made of HA but rather a substance referred to as a collagen stimulator. The collagen stimulators we carry are FDA-approved Sculptra and Radiesse. Collagen stimulators work by stimulating new collagen within your skin and strengthening and building up your skin’s foundational structure from the inside. Rather than plumping skin immediately with HA, collagen stimulators take weeks to months to reveal optimal results. Sculptra, for example, may show immediate improvement that subsides quickly, but don’t let that fool you! Sculptra is busy at work behind the scenes building new collagen, resulting in volume restoration and age-defying improvements to your facial contours in the months following your sessions. For your best results, we typically administer three Sculptra sessions, spaced about four weeks apart.

Yes! Rest assured that we will guide you every step of the way so you get the precise fillers you need. That said, each filler we carry has a distinct purpose.

Here’s a list of fillers organized by the results they provide:

  • Smoothing lines around the mouth, nose and chin:
Juvéderm Ultra XC, Restylane, Restlyne Refyne, Restylane Defyne
  • Plumping lips, smoothing vertical lip lines:
Volbella, Restylane Kysse, Juvéderm Ultra Plus, Restylane L
  • Lifting cheeks:
    Voluma and Restylane Lyft
  • Defining jawline and chin:
    Voluma and Restylane Lyft
  • Restoring lost hand volume:
    Radiesse

Our master injectors have the experience and skill needed to minimize your risk of side effects. However, there are common side effects with any injection, including swelling, pinpoint bleeding and bruising. You may want to lay low for a day or two following your injectables session due to these common side effects. Read more*

HA dermal fillers provide immediate results. However, it can take one to two weeks or longer for your true, optimal results to be seen. This is because it takes time for dermal fillers to fully settle and for any swelling to subside. With collagen stimulators like Sculptra, you can see your optimal results after a series of three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart.

Dermal fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, which helps to minimize your discomfort during the injection process. With any injection, you may feel a slight stinging sensation, but this discomfort is well-tolerated and short-lived. Following your session, your injection sites may feel slightly sore and be swollen and/or bruised. Do not worry! These side effects are all normal and will resolve in the days to weeks following your treatment.

Cheek filler is simply a dermal filler that is used to help replenish volume loss in the cheeks due to the natural aging process. Voluma and Restylane Lyft are fillers that have been formulated specifically for the cheek area. Replenishing volume back to the cheeks will not only help give a youthful contour back to your cheek but can also improve the undereye area, smile lines and jowling.

Treatments can take 45 to 60 minutes.

Downtime varies between clients. Most clients can go back to work the same day with some redness and swelling. Bruising is a possibility, which can take seven to 10 days to resolve. Makeup can be applied 24 hours post-procedure.

To help minimize bruising risks: avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS), aspirin and fish oil for two weeks and avoid alcohol 48 hours prior to your injection. Arnica montana can be used five days prior to the procedure. Arnica montana is a homeopathic supplement to help reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

It’s recommended to avoid touching the area for the remainder of the day. Ice can be applied throughout the day to help with swelling. Tylenol can be taken as needed for soreness. No makeup should be applied for 24 hours. Avoid exercise for 24 hours to minimize swelling. Avoid any dental procedures for two to four weeks post-injection.

The number of syringes needed depends on client presentation. You may need anywhere from one to four syringes per treatment. Depending on the filler used, it can last up to two years. Most clients return for additional treatment every year.

All medical history should be discussed with your provider prior to your procedure. It’s important to talk to your provider about allergies, past surgeries and medical conditions.
